Yard Waste Collection Change - March 1, 2017

Yard Waste Collection Changes Coming in March, 2017

American Disposal Services, our trash collection contractor, has given us early notification of an upcoming change taking effect March 1, 2017 regarding the collection process for yard waste removal. Material placed in plastic bags will be rejected at the local yard waste composting facilities. ADC has been informed that plastic bags of any kind require additional processing and render the finished compost less attractive. Therefore ADC is modifying its current collection policy to avoid additional costs that would be necessary if we accept material in plastic bags.

ADC will accept yard Waste material in compostable paper yard waste bags or personal containers clearly marked “Yard Debris Material”. These paper yard waste bags can be found at local grocery stores, hardware stores, and through on-line retailers. Beginning March 1, 2017, ADC will no longer be accepting yard waste material in plastic bags.

Solar Panel Presentation, October 18th

On Tuesday, October 18 at 7:30 in Studio A at Reston Community Center-Lake Anne, there will be a presentation on installing solar panels on our homes in Washington Plaza.
After having consulted with SOLARIZE NoVA and having two homes in the Cluster inspected by their competitively selected installer, we have detailed proposals for installing solar panels on our two roofs.  Furthermore, the solar installation plans for both homes have been approved by the Reston Design Review Board.  

Now, we have all the information to share with WPCA homeowners on what it would take to install solar on homes in our Cluster---that is, how much energy the panels provide, system specs, how it will look, installation info, costs, tax credits, etc. 
And the presenters will be there to answer any questions you have.

Reserve Study

Virginia requires homeowners association (HOAs) to conduct a "reserve study" every five years to ensure that the HOA has identified over a 20-year period all the repairs and replacements for its capital assets (roads, sidewalks, docks, walls, etc.) and has a financial plan to do the work.  This was our year to conduct a study and our contractor, Mason & Mason has delivered the report.  The report is available here or in the Documents page of this website.

The study concludes that our current dues level is sufficient for the work they project.
