Yard Waste Container Rule

The Cluster has received the a letter from our refuse collection contractor, American Disposal Services, regarding an earlier announcement that yard waste would only be accepted in paper yard waste bags.  As explained in the excerpt below, this change will not take place as announced. Although plastic bags are still acceptable, ADS advises that clear plastic bags must be used for yard waste.

RE: Plastic Bags for use with Yard Waste Still Accepted in Fairfax County

Dear Valued Customer,

We informed you recently of the County’s new rules for yard waste collection, specifically about plastic bags. The regulatory change that affects how yard waste is collected has been postponed indefinitely. Therefore, at this time there will be no change to our collection procedure and we will accept plastic bags. If anything does change later, we will notify you at that time. However, we would like to encourage the use of bio-degradable paper bags and or the use of personal containers marked for “yard debris”.

The best alternative is to leave grass clippings on the lawn, where they will quickly biodegrade and add nutrient value to your lawn. If you choose to use plastic bags, please remember they must be clear plastic bags. We do not accept black plastic bags or bags that cannot be easily identified as yard debris material.

We appreciate your business and look forward to continuing to provide you with the highest level of service.

Thank You,

American Disposal Services
